Pay by phone: Expanded pay-by phone application for 1999 tax year until October 2000. Extension payments (F4868) starting 01/14/2000 (no form required). Estimated tax payments (Form 1040ES) starting 03/01/2000 for TY2000. Fed/State payments for balance
File and pay: Also available to Intuit’s MacInTAX home PC users and expansion to WebTurboTax and TurboTax ProSeries (Intuit Products) as option year extension from 1999 contract with Discover Brand Cards.
Results: As of April 23, 1999, approximately 53,000 credit card payments were processed totaling $183 million!

Direct Debit:
- Allows taxpayers who file electronically (except TeleFile) to pay their balance due on current year Form 1040 series returns (not available to paper filers)
- Authorizes Treasury to automatically withdraw funds from a designated checking or savings account
- Initiated at the time the return is electronically filed
- Payments can be warehoused until designated payment date (up to April 15)
- Approximately 74,000 payments processed totaling $139 million
