May 2, 2001 ***Exhibit Hall Space is Sold Out*** The Federation of Tax Administrators 17th Annual Technology Conference and Exhibition will be held August 12-15, 2001, in Spokane, Washington, at the WestCoast Grand Hotel at the Park. This announcement contains a preliminary topical program as well as registration materials and hotel information. PROGRAM FEATURES Developments in E-services will again be featured this year, as many entities are implementing Web-based programs. Remarks will feature both technical and business approaches. Continuing efforts to integrate revenue applications and use technology to enable "one-stop customer service" will be presented, as well as other new and developing areas including Internet portals, security, PKI, training and retention, audit and compliance, data warehousing, customer relationship management, enterprise application integration, and others. EXHIBIT HALL There will also be a vendor exhibit hall providing a concentrated opportunity to visit with private sector representatives about new products and services during extended hours on Sunday, August 12, and Monday, August 13. **Space in the Exhibit Hall is Sold Out*** RELATED MEETINGS The National Association of Computerized Tax Processors (NACTP) is expected to hold its annual meeting, in conjunction with the FTA Technology Conference, from August 15-17. Also again this year, there will be a meeting of the ASC X12/TIGERS Group at the conclusion of the Technology Conference, also on August 15-17. This government and industry group develops electronic standards and has made progress on XML guidance for tax administrators and providers that will be reviewed at the meeting. REGISTRATION The Conference registration fee is $265 for government delegates and $365 for industry participants. This includes the opening reception on Sunday, continental breakfast Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and the Monday luncheon. A conference registration form is enclosed or complete the online registration form. Upon completion, please mail it with your check, made payable to Federation of Tax Administrators, to: Federation of Tax Administrators The FTA Conference registration deadline is July 20, 2001. A late fee of $35 will be assessed if you fail to register before the workshop. Faxed registrations will be accepted at (202) 624-7888. If unable to make payment at the time of registration, registrants are asked to indicate payment method, including requests for invoicing. Checks will also be accepted on-site for payment. Mastercard or VISA is accepted; to pay by phone, call (202) 624-8441, or you may also provide the information via online registration on the FTA Web site at www.taxadmin.org. Cancellations are accepted without penalty if received by August 6; cancellations after that date (except emergencies) will incur a $35 processing fee. On-site NEW registrants must add $35 fee. HOTEL REGISTRATION The conference will be held at the WestCoast Grand Hotel at the Park, 303 West North River Drive, Spokane, WA 99201. MAKE YOUR HOTEL RESERVATIONS NOW -- Group Rates are: Government - $63 single ($10 additional adult), Industry - $92 single/double, plus a $2.75 per room, per night energy charge. Make your reservations directly with the hotel by calling 800-325-4000 or 509-326-8000 and request the Federation of Tax Administrators rate, specifying "government" or "industry." Early registration is urged as the block tends to fill quickly. The cut-off date for hotel reservations is July 18. Rooms may not be available after that date. The hotels fax number is: 509-325-7329. GROUND TRANSPORTATION The hotel offers a free shuttle; call them for more information. Trip duration each way is about 15 minutes (non-rush). WEATHER The weather in Spokane in August is normally warm during the day (it can be in the 90s). Dress for the sessions will be business casual, meaning collared shirts and slacks for men but no ties.
