FTA 16TH ANNUAL
TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION
August 13-16, 2000 • San Antonio, TX

SUMMARY

The Federation of Tax Administrators 16th Annual Technology Conference and Exhibition will be held August 13-16, 2000, in San Antonio, Texas at the Adams Mark Hotel. This announcement contains a preliminary program as well as registration materials and hotel information.

The hotel registration deadline is July 13. FTA suggests that you make your hotel arrangements early and also requests that you complete your conference registration with us by July 21. On-line registrations may be accepted at www.taxadmin.org. Fax registrations may be sent to (202) 624-7888.

PROGRAM FEATURES

Developments in E-Commerce will again be featured this year, as many entities are implementing web-based programs. Remarks will feature both technical and business approaches. Continuing efforts to integrate revenue applications and use technology to enable "one-stop customer service" will be presented, as well as other new and developing areas.

EXHIBIT HALL

There will also be a vendor exhibit hall providing a concentrated opportunity to visit with private sector representatives about new products and services during extended hours on Sunday, August 13 and Monday, August 14. RELATED MEETINGS

The National Association of Computerized Tax Processors is expected to hold its annual meeting in conjunction with the FTA Technology Conference, from August 16-18. Also again this year, there will be a meeting of the ASC X12/TIGERS Group at the conclusion of the Technology Conference, on August 16-18. This government and industry group develops electronic standards and has developed an Electronic Commerce Best Practices document to assist tax agencies engaging in electronic commerce with taxpayers and service providers that will be reviewed at the meeting. There is no registration fee for the TIGERS meeting.

REGISTRATION

The Conference registration fee is $255 for government delegates and $355 for industry participants. This includes the opening reception on Sunday, continental breakfast Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and the Monday and Tuesday luncheon. Please submit your registration by July 21.

A conference registration form is enclosed. Please complete and mail it, together with your check, made payable to FTA to:

Again, the FTA Conference registration deadline is July 21, 2000. A late fee of $25 will be assessed if you fail to register before the workshop. Fax registrations will be accepted at (202) 624-7888. If unable to make payment at the time of registration, registrants are asked to indicate payment method, including requests for invoicing. Checks will also be accepted on-site for payment. Mastercard or VISA is accepted; to pay by phone call 202-624-5892, or you may also pay via on-line registration on the FTA web site at www.taxadmin.org.

Cancellations

Cancellations are accepted without penalty if received by August 9; cancellations after that date (except emergencies) will incur a $25 processing fee. On-site NEW registrants must add $25 fee.

HOTEL REGISTRATION

The conference will be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 111 Pecan Street East, San Antonio, TX 78205. FTA Group Rates are Government $91/single, $110/dbl, Business $109/single, $129/dbl. Make your reservations directly with the hotel by calling 210-354-2800 and indicate you are attending the FTA Technology Conference. Early registration is urged as the block tends to fill quickly. The cut-off date for hotel reservations is July 13. Rooms may not be available after that date.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

San Antonio Trans offers transportation from the airport (check at the SA Trans booth); the cost is $8. Shuttles depart from the hotel every half-hour on the hour. Call 210-281-9900 for more information. Taxi service will run approximately $14 each way. Trip duration each way is about 30-60 minutes (rush) and 10-20 minutes (non-rush).

WEATHER

The weather in San Antonio in August is normally quite warm during the day (can be in the 90s or warmer and humid). Dress for the sessions will be business casual, meaning collared shirts and slacks for men but no ties.
