Overflow Hotel

The Hyatt Regency Louisville is filling rapidly for the FTA Technology Conference August 11-14. FTA has arranged for a room block at an overflow property, the Seelbach Hilton, about 1 1/2 blocks from the Hyatt, 500 Fourth Avenue, Louisville, KY 40202-2518, Tel: (502) 585-3200, Fax: (502) 585-9239. The block is listed as "FTA Technology Conference" and the rate is $99 plus tax, and the Seelbach reservations deadline is extended until July 22nd.

 

The Federation of Tax Administrators 18th Annual Technology Conference and Exhibition will be held August 11-14, 2002, in Louisville, Kentucky at the Hyatt Regencv Louisville. This announcement contains a preliminary program as well as registration materials and hotel information.

The hotel registration deadline is July 15. FTA suggests that you make your hotel arrangements early and also requests that you complete your conference registration with us by July 22. On-line registrations may be accepted at www.taxadmin.org. Fax registrations may be sent to (202) 624-7888.

 

PROGRAM FEATURES
Developments in e-commerce will again be featured this year, and remarks will feature both technical and business approaches. Continuing efforts to integrate revenue applications and use technology to enable "one-stop customer service" will be presented, as well as other new and developing areas such as direct web filing, integrated tax systems, security, disaster continuity, 2-D barcoding, IRS IT modernization, data warehousing, and tax compliance applications.

EXHIBIT HALL
There will also again be a vendor exhibit hall providing a concentrated opportunity to visit with private sector representatives about new products and services during extended hours on Sunday, August 11 and Monday, August 12. All Exhibit times and events will take place at the Kentucky International Convention Center, which is directly connected to the Hyatt Hotel. This year, FTA has outsourced the management of the Exhibit Hall to an outstanding Trade Show Management firm, The Bridge Group in Annandale, VA. If you would are a vendor that would like to exhibit your products and services, please contact Lee Arevian at The Bridge Group at lee@tbgevents.com, or complete the enclosed registration form. In addition, if you represent a state agency the FTA would appreciate your referring your vendors to The Bridge Group.

RELATED MEETINGS
Again this year there will be a meeting of the ASC X12/TIGERS Group in the Hyatt at the conclusion of the Technology Conference, from 1:30 pm August 14th through noon on the 16th. This government/industry consensus group develops electronic standards and is now developing guidance on the use of eXtensible Markup Language (XML) for Tax Filing. There is no registration fee for the TIGERS meeting, but we ask that you register your intended attendance so that an accurate count can be made for hotel space planning purposes.

The National Association of Computerized Tax Processors is again expected to hold its annual meeting in conjunction with the FTA Technology Conference, from August 14-16. Their meeting this year will take place a few blocks away from the Hyatt at the Galt House, 1-800-626-1814.

REGISTRATION
The Conference registration fee is $275 for government delegates and $395 for industry participants. This includes the Exhibit Hall opening reception on Sunday, and the luncheon Monday in the Hall, and continental breakfasts Tuesday and Wednesday. Please submit your registration by July 22.

Again, the FTA Conference registration deadline is July 22, 2002. A late fee of $35 will be assessed if you fail to register before the workshop. Fax registrations will be accepted at (202) 624-7888. If unable to make payment at the time of registration, registrants are asked to indicate payment method, including requests for invoicing. Checks will also be accepted on-site for payment. Mastercard or VISA is accepted; to pay by phone call 202-624-5892, or you may also pay via on-line registration on the FTA web site at www.taxadmin.org.

Cancellations

Cancellations are accepted without penalty if received by August 1; cancellations after that date (except emergencies) will incur a $35 processing fee. On-site NEW registrants must add $35 fee.

HOTEL REGISTRATION
The conference will be held at the
Hyatt Regency Louisville. FTA Group Rates are Government $99 single/double +12.36% tax. Make your reservations directly with the hotel by calling 800-233-1234 and indicate you are attending the FTA Technology Conference. Early registration is urged as the block tends to fill quickly. The cut-off date for hotel reservations is July 15. Rooms may not be available after that date.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Local shuttle transportation is offered from the airport; the cost is approximately $12. You can call Executive Coach at 502-727-0268 or Let It Ride at 502-589-4464 for more information. Taxi service will run approximately $20-25 each way. Trip duration each way is about 15-20 minutes.

WEATHER
The weather in Louisville in August is normally warm during the day (can be in the 90s). Dress for the sessions will be business casual, meaning collared shirts and slacks for men but no ties. You may want to check for local attraction information at:
