FEDSTATE ELECTRONIC FILING SYMPOSIUM
APRIL 29 - MAY 2, 2001, CINCINNATI

To State Tax Administrators:

SUMMARY

The 2001 FedState Electronic Filing Symposium will take place April 29-May 2 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Any individual interested in electronic filing for individual income taxes is encouraged to attend. The TIGERS EC standards group will meet May 2-4, and the FTA/NACTP sponsored 2-D Barcode standards group will meet the afternoon of May 2. Those interested in employing XML to develop new tax filing EC applications are welcome to attend the former, and forms coordinators and others with an involvement in new technologies used in paper processing will be interested in the latter.

This announcement includes a preliminary program for the Electronic Filing Symposium only. Program changes/updates will be posted to the FTA Web site as they occur (www.taxadmin.org). Information on the TIGERS and 2-D Standards meetings will be available separately on the FTA Web site.
Registration is also available on-line at http://www.taxadmin.org

FTA, in cooperation with the IRS, is sponsoring the 2001 FedState Electronic Filing Symposium April 29-May 2 in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the Omni Netherland Plaza Hotel.

All individuals interested in individual income tax electronic filing are encouraged to attend. This year’s agenda will also feature sessions on electronic filing of business taxes and 2-D Barcode Standards.

XML Standards — Tax Information Group for EC Requirements Standardization (TIGERS). In addition to the normally scheduled sessions, there will be a meeting of the FTA-sponsored TIGERS Group beginning the afternoon of May 2, and ending at Noon on May 4. This group develops voluntary electronic standards, and is now working on those for the use of XML in tax filing, with sub-groups addressing payroll, corporate, sales, and motor fuel tax filing. See www.taxadmin.org/fta/edi/1205ann.html for more information (and in early April for more specific agenda information). There is no registration fee for the TIGERS meeting, but please check off the registration form in the appropriate place if you plan to attend.

2-D Barcode Standards — FTA/NACTP. There will also be a meeting of the FTA/NACTP sponsored 2-D Barcode Standards group on the afternoon of May 2. This group develops voluntary 2-D standards, and is now working on 2001-02 revisions. See www.taxadmin.org/fta/edi/2-dcurrent.html for more information (and again in early April for more specific agenda information). There is no registration fee for the 2-D meeting, but please check off the registration form in the appropriate place if you plan to attend.

Registration will begin on Sunday afternoon, April 29, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The program begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude by 12:00 Noon on Wednesday.

There will be a reception with light snacks on Sunday evening from 5:30—7:00 p.m., and a continental breakfast will be available on all three mornings. New this year is a "table topic" lunch which will provide attendees with additional networking opportunities. While no evening activities are planned, there will be area maps, restaurant lists and activity guides available at the registration desk. Dress for the symposium will be "business casual."

A preliminary program is attached to this bulletin. All program changes/updates will be posted to the FTA Web site (www.taxadmin.org) as they occur.

For meeting details, please contact Darrell Reeves at FTA at (202) 624-5892 or darrell.reeves@taxadmin.org.
