To State Tax Administrators:

SUMMARY

The 2003 Electronic Filing Symposium will take place May 4-7 at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis, Indiana. Any individual interested in electronic filing for individual income taxes is encouraged to attend. In addition, there will be breakout sessions devoted to the electronic filing of business taxes and 2-D Bar Code Standards.

A preliminary daily program is attached. FTA is in the process of gathering speaker names and will update this program as the information is received. Program updates and modifications will be posted to www.taxadmin.org. Please check regularly for any updates. Registration is also available online at www.taxadmin.org.

The FTA/NACTP-sponsored 2-D Bar Code standards group will meet the morning of May 7, and the TIGERS EC standards group will meet May 8-9, primarily focusing on technical work relating to the new Federal-State Employment Tax program. Forms coordinators and others with an involvement in new technologies used in paper processing will be interested in the former, and those interested in employing XML to develop new tax filing EC applications are welcomed to the latter.

Information on the TIGERS and 2-D Standards meetings will be available separately on the FTA Web site.

Note: Most areas in Indiana do not recognize Daylight Savings Time and will be on Central Daylight Time during the conference. Please make travel arrangements accordingly.

FTA, in cooperation with the IRS, is sponsoring the 2003 Electronic Filing Symposium May 4-7 in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. All individuals interested in individual income tax electronic filing are encouraged to attend. The meeting will also feature a special half-day breakout session on Tuesday afternoon that will outline IRS and state development of the Federal-State Employment Tax program, including how a single Fed-State standard will promote growth of business E-file and how this may benefit your own e-file strategy. On Wednesday morning there will also be a working session on updating 2-D Bar Code Standards.

Registration for the Symposium will begin on Sunday afternoon, May 4, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The program begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude by 12:00 Noon on Wednesday.

There will be a reception with light snacks on Monday evening from 5:30–7:00 p.m., and a continental breakfast will be available on all three mornings. Attendees will be treated to a "table topic" lunch that will provide additional networking opportunities. While no evening activities are planned, there will be area maps, restaurant lists and activity guides available at the registration desk. Dress for the symposium will be “business casual.”

A preliminary program is attached to this bulletin. All program changes/updates will be posted to the FTA Web site as they occur (www.taxadmin.org).
For meeting details, please contact Darrell Reeves at FTA at (202) 624-5892 or darrell.reeves@taxadmin.org.
