Summary

The 2007 FTA Motor Fuel Tax Section Annual meeting will be held at the Hilton Capitol Center, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, September 30-October 3, 2007. This bulletin provides conference and hotel registration information and the preliminary agenda. Hotel reservations should be made by calling the Hilton Capitol Center at (225) 334-5866 or (800) 445-8667. The cut-off date for the hotel is August 26, 2007.

The Uniformity Committee will meet Saturday, September 29, with subcommittees meeting Friday, September 28.

FTA Motor Fuel Tax Section Chair, Michael Harrell, from the Delaware Department of Transportation, the Louisiana Department of Revenue and Members of the FTA Board of Trustees, extend a cordial invitation to attend the 2007 Annual Meeting of the FTA Motor Fuel Tax Section. The meeting will be held at the Hilton Capitol Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, September 30-October 3, 2007. FTA Uniformity Committee will meet Saturday, September 29, with subcommittees meeting Friday, September 28.

The conference will begin with registration and an opening reception Sunday, September 30. Monday and Tuesday will be devoted to general sessions in the morning, with breakout sessions scheduled in the afternoon. Wednesday morning will include a general session with various topics of interest to motor fuel tax administrators. Regional meetings will be held Monday afternoon, and the Annual Business Meeting will be held Tuesday afternoon. The annual banquet will be held Tuesday evening, October 2.

Conference Program

The conference program consists of a mix of general session and concurrent breakout sessions presenting different topics of interest to state motor fuel tax administrators. They include: International Movement of Fuel, Dyed Fuel Investigations, Equipment that are allowed to use Dyed Fuel on the Highways, Alternative Fuel Vehicles, National Disasters and other topics of interest to Motor Fuel Tax Administrators. Registration

Registration for the conference is $375 per delegate. The registration must be submitted prior to September 7, 2007 to avoid a late fee of $50.00. Make checks payable to the FTA 2007 Motor Fuel Conference. Registration forms can be found in the registration packet or at www.taxadmin.org. Hotel Registration

The site of this year´s conference is the historic Hilton Capitol Center, a four-star, four diamond hotel located in downtown Baton Rouge on the mighty Mississippi River. Delegates may make their reservations with the hotel directly at (800) 445-8667 or (225) 344-5866. Make certain to inform the hotel that you are attending the Federation of Tax Administrator´s Motor Fuel Conference meeting to receive the special rate of $ 119, plus applicable taxes. Hotel reservations can also be made online at http://www.hiltoncapitolcenter.com; enter "MTC" for the group/conference rate.

Social Events

The conference will begin with a Sunday reception featuring hor d´oeuvres and beverages at the beautiful Hilton Capitol Center. Sunday´s reception will be held outside around the pool area, weather permitting. A banquet will be hosted on Tuesday night in the beautiful Heidelberg Ballroom featuring a delicious meal, after which we invite you to sit back and enjoy a cajun humorist, as well as a disc jockey spinning your favorite tunes.

Transportation

The hotel, which is about 10 to 15 minutes from the airport, provides complimentary shuttle service from the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport. Although the shuttle service usually arrives at the airport routinely on the quarter after the hour, it is recommended that you contact the hotel in advance of your travel at (225) 344-5866 to make arrangements for the shuttle service or you can use the Hilton courtesy phone located by the baggage claim area.

Valet parking is available at the hotel for $10 per day. Self parking is available at parking lots near the hotel for $5 to $6 per day.

Climate

Baton Rouge´s weather is usually moderate in the fall so expect highs averaging in the 80´s and lows in the mid-60´s to 70´s. Since the hotel is located by the river, a light sweater or jacket may be needed in the evenings. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, with an average monthly rainfall of 4 inches in September and in October.

Dress

The dress for the conference is business casual except for the banquet Tuesday evening, which will be semi-formal.
