The Department of Revenue is recruiting for two Revenue Auditor III positions. One position will be located in Juneau and one in Anchorage, Alaska.

Juneau: This position will lead the division's tax compliance efforts and audit coordination functions in Juneau. Audit coordination consists of development and implementation of programs for selecting returns for referral to the Anchorage audit group. This includes development of reports using the division database and information from external sources to analyze and track unusual activity. The incumbent may supervise tax examination units to ensure their operation remains efficient and accurate, manage technological change, and may advance tax compliance efforts to meet the division mission objectives. The incumbent may prepare ad hoc reports for management and public inquiries. The incumbent will be required to have knowledge of taxation, accounting theory and principles, professional auditing experience and the ability to work within a team environment.

Anchorage: This position will perform tax audits of a variety of businesses that are subject to Alaska's motor fuel taxes, fisheries taxes and corporate income tax. On a regular basis this position will participate on an audit team performing large and complex income tax audits of multistate/multinational corporations, including oil and gas corporations. In addition to tax audits, this position may participate in a variety of tasks associated with administering a tax program. These projects include tax research, taxpayer education, and legislation analysis and regulation projects. The incumbent must have knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and the principles of formulary apportionment. The incumbent must have financial auditing experience, demonstrate effective communication skills and a willingness to work in an adversarial environment. Some travel is required. Historically, these positions have seen opportunities for advancement commensurate with experience and demonstrated performance. The incumbent will join a professional tax audit team that has gained recognition for innovation and technical expertise.
