There was no review of Volume I EDI Business Reference Model for Taxing Authorities and no presentation of Motor Fuel maps and versions at this month's meeting.
Represented states gave Electronic Commerce Status Updates. Minutes were read and approved from the April Interim Meeting in Boston, MA.
There was discussion of what Transaction Set(s) should be used for translating to XML.
Tuesday, June 6, 2000 -- Tax Information Interchange Development (TG2)
Karen Goldee presented the changes requested by TAS to the T/S 150 - Tax Rate Notification from states back to Motor Carriers. The changes were approved as written.
There was a presentation by Mark Crawford of Logistics Management Institute on XML. He reviewed Technical Specifications, Components of an XML Document, Data Modeling, Design Rules, and Issues. He suggested we go to www.w3c.org and read a document on Recommendations to XML. He also suggested we take any XML online courses available to become more familiar with XML.
Pam Akinson (National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems - NAPHSIS) made a presentation on a new project proposal form for a Vital Event Transaction. She will try to build a data model to present at the October Trimester Meeting in Cincinnati, OH. TG1 is presenting this as a new project proposal to create in XML.
Wednesday, June 7, 2000 -- Tax Information Interchange Development (TG2)
Lesley Anderson and Peter Horsburgh of Microsoft gave a TaXML Presentation using a straw man schema for electronic tax returns. It was based on the Federal Form 1040 and the State of California Income Tax Form. They presented a TaXML Hierarchy and showed us what the schema and DTD would look like for this particular project. This is still a work in progress. A web address for source review is www.architag.com. This location offers a variety of choices. Select Xmlu.com and go to the toybox to practice online with creating some XML data. There are instructions for downloading this to your PC. Also, biztalk.org offers free registration to view their published XML schemas and tags for public use. We discussed the pilot project TG2 would like to do in XML, and T/S 283 Tax or Fee Exemption Certificate was chosen. We will attempt to convert this from an EDI format to XML.
A copy of the Electronic Commerce Best Practice document was handed out for review. It was suggested that any modifications be e-mailed to Terry Garber for her input to the ECBP document finalization.
Thursday, June 8, 2000 -- Tax Information Interchange Development (TG2)
Kit Leuder presented a document from X12C on X12-XML: An Experimental Methodology for the Representation of X12 Semantics in XML Syntax. He discussed and explained several of the examples in the document to the group. He also helped us to start with this methodology to begin trying to work on our pilot project with the T/S 283. It was decided we would need to do more data modeling before going much further with this attempt.
Mary Stuart and Karen Goldee from TG1 drew up a tentative data model as a beginning example for TG2.
